Thanks for stopping by.

New and recycled. Traditional and Modern. Hand and Power. Bench Dog Studio is a blending of many things, all associated with woodworking. Primarily it is my creative outlet for sharing my woodworking projects.

I grew up watching Norm and this formed my early woodworking ideas. Everything was power tool based. Over the years this has served me well in a wide range of creations. But in the decades since I’ve become less enamored with the noise and dust not to mention the constant heightened sense of awareness to ensure an accident free experience.

For a while I wanted to make a canoe by hand, well a few years ago this was changed to a kayak which I built over the course of three summers taking just over 300 hours to complete. A lot of the work was done with hand tools and I really enjoyed that aspect. I realize the value of power tools for some operations and have no plans to abandon them but I will also increase the usage of hand tools as much as reasonably possible. This has brought a greater enjoyment back to by woodworking experience.

Valuing the recycling approach, I also seek to reuse whenever possible. This, for example, could be the restoration of an old tool or it could be the use of reclaimed or pallet wood in a project.

Most of my projects will be posted primarily as videos on YouTube as I believe that medium is able to best communicate what and how I perform my woodworking.

Finally, check out my gallery for a sampling of previous projects over the years.
